Decades of accelerating inequality.

Policies that benefit the few at the expense of everyone else.

Unaffordable higher education.

It’s time for an economy that works for Washington’s 99%.

We must rebuild a strong state economy where working families will prosper.

Our state has cut $10 billion in the past three years – eliminating thousands of jobs, costing families their health care, forcing parents to choose between work and access to child care, increasing school class sizes and skyrocketing college tuition. Now the legislature has to cut another $1.4 billion. It’s time to say enough is enough. We need to close tax loopholes and raise revenue for what matters to us.

That’s why we’re standing together to ask our legislators to:

Fund what matters in our communities to ensure a strong future for working families

  • Adequately fund higher education: Our economy depends on a well-educated workforce. It’s time to stop saddling our students with huge, unmanageable debt.
  • Provide funding for safe, quality child care to support working parents: Both Seasonal and Working Connections Child Care Programs are at risk of drastic cuts. Cuts to these programs force children into unsafe, unregulated care and force hundreds of small business child care providers to close their doors.
  • Ensure funding for our public schools: The State Supreme Court has ruled that the Legislature has failed to fulfill its constitutional requirement to fully fund basic education. Our children deserve a strong education so that they have the foundation they need to succeed.

Raise new revenue to rebuild our communities

  • Keep all revenue options on the table to prevent deeper cuts to education, healthcare and other essential community services.
  • Reform the corporate tax break system and make corporations pay their fair share.
  • Tax profits on stocks and other capital gains: This would apply only to the very wealthy – the top 3% of Washingtonians – and could raise $700 million or more each year.

Create a government system that works efficiently for all of us

  • Allow 12 month child care authorizations: Create stable care for children and save on wasteful paperwork.
  • Renegotiate the state’s contract with Chase Bank so they stop siphoning benefit dollars meant for families and children.
  • Seek a solution for k-12 health insurance that works for family and individuals while lowering the cost of health care for those who work for k-12 public schools.

Ensure Justice for All in Our Communities

  • End discrimination by the state: It’s time to end discrimination by the state and provide same-sex couples with access to the state level benefits and responsibilities of marriage.
  • Support employer choice, protect voluntary e-verify: The bill before the WA legislature would protect jobs for all workers and ensure that immigration enforcement doesn’t fall on the backs of small businesses. This would ensure that businesses continue to have choice in whether to participate in E-verify or not.
  • Protect collective bargaining rights: Fight any attempts to weaken collective bargaining in WA.

We believe in shifting power from the few to the many, by building hope and justice within our communities.
