As some of you know I am your representative on the Early Learning Advisory Council (ELAC) and serve as the co-chair. This Council is a group appointed by the Governor to advise the Department of Early Learning on policy and direction.
Right now we are working on:
- Race to the Top: QRIS and WAkids are moving ahead with the Race to the Top money. These both will be a roll out format and changes will be made along the way. ELAC is very involved in this and I will continue to engage on our behalf in these committees.
- State budget issues: ELAC continues to work in Olympia with legislators. We work together on a coordinated approach to early learning issues.
- Strengthening the Council’s scope
In my role on the council, I also served on the Guidelines group. We have completed the new Guidelines document to help parents and providers understand developmental steps in children birth to 3rd grade and give you ideas for supporting and enhancing that growth. Trainings will be created around this document.
My goal is and always has been to represent all of our members across the state with a strong voice for Early Learning. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. I do run my own childcare so I appreciate your patience if you don’t hear from me the same day. Also feel free to call – it is often easier for me to be on the phone than on the computer.
