2010 Bargaining Update 5: Family Child Care Contract

Your bargaining team has put together this short video to update you on bargaining session #5. If you have any trouble playing this video, please email action@seiu925.org.

Cuts Looming - Protect Childcare

During the last legislative session, we all worked together to protect Working Connections Child Care. You know that in these tough economic times, working parents in Washington depend on these critical subsidies to afford child care and keep working.

Despite saving Working Connections during session, it is once again at risk. The federal government has not come through with promised money to states and the large budget gap means that there will once again be drastic cuts - as early as September.

We must make sure our elected officials understand the importance of Working Connections. Every child care provider needs to urge the Governor to protect this critical program.

2010 Bargaining Update 4: Family Child Care Contract

The State has given us their disappointing response to all of our economic proposals: the state cannot put any additional new money into our contract given the budget crisis. The State is projecting yet another $3 billion budget deficit for 2011-2013 - and we are likely to face more cuts to our program. Even with all of that, there is a glass half full outlook to this bargaining session.

2010 Bargaining Update 3: Family Child Care Contract

The bargaining teams met last week for a very brief exchange of some small non-economic items. The State team cannot respond on any economic issues until the June economic forecast and until the latest round of concerns about the state budget and federal assistance gets resolved.

SSPS Alert

AN IMPORTANT JANUARY PAYMENT REMINDER FROM SSPS

The date a provider receives payment for services paid through the Social Service Payment System (SSPS) varies due to weekends, and bank and US Postal Service holidays.

January 1st through 3rd are holiday and weekend dates in 2010.  These factors are out of payment system control.  As a result provider claims made before 4:30 on December 31st will:

·        Begin processing on January 4th instead of the 1st .

·        Experience possible high volume US Postal Service holiday mailing delays.

·        Be available for banks to automatically deposit into providers’ accounts no earlier than January 8th.

All of these factors will result in payments reaching providers later than usual.

Family Providers Urged Legislators to Support Struggling Families

Nancy Gerber

Family providers asked state legislators to direct federal money to parent support rather than rate increases.

Nancy Gerber discusses family providers' decision to withdraw their lawsuit to compel the state to pay higher rates.
