2008 Bargaining Team

Alisha Gregory-Davis, Program Coordinator, Social Work Bldg/Social Work: I have been a member of SEIU 925 for the past 7 years while employed at the UW Tacoma for 4 years and currently at UW Seattle for 3 years. I appreciate the ability of SEIU 925 to advocate effectively for each member within the University of Washington system. As a student studying political science, I have studied the historical significance of labor unions and their great contributions to members in the workforce. As a SEIU 925 member, I have personally benefited from the support, negotiations and continued advocacy that the union has provided for the members. I am truly excited about participating actively in the bargaining team. My goal is to be an advocate and negotiator for SEIU 925 members at the University of Washington to ensure that they are receiving fair and competitive wages, affordable health care benefits and professional support.

UW B-TeamAllison Bigelow, Respiratory Care Practitioner, UWMC/Respiratory Care: My name is Allison Bigelow. I'm a Respiratory Care Practitioner and have been at the medical center for 15+ years. I previously served on the bargaining team in 2004 and 2006 and this is where it all happens for me. The hard work of the team and the resulting contract is a reflection of the university as a whole and the importance of all the SEIU 925 members. It's challenging, educational, and very satisfying.

Anne Lawson, Fiscal Specialist 2, 39th and University/Equipment Inventory: My name is Anne Lawson. I would like to be on the Bargaining Team. I have been on the bargaining team for the past 2 contracts so I have experience as to what to expect and the process we go through. This would be an asset to help new members of the team. I have worked at the UW for 15 years. For 12 years I processed payroll and leave records so many of the issues we bargain for I am very familiar with.

UW B-TeamChris King, Administrative Coordinator, NE 43rd and 11th NE /Educational Outreach: My name is Chris King and I have work at the University of Washington Educational Outreach for seven years. A great portion of my job entails HR functions. I am well acquainted with the policies surrounding such activities for Contract Classified Staff as: classification, reclassification, CEGP, salary adjustment, leave usage, temporary salary increase, etc. I would like to be on the bargaining team, because I can bring my knowledge and abilities in this area to bear on our getting a contract that is fair and takes into account the very real increases in cost of living (e.g. housing, health care, transportation) that we have all experienced here in the Seattle area. In 2006 I was proud to be a member of a bargaining team that worked hard to insure that the concerns of our members were addressed during the bargaining process. I will work hard to insure that we continue to have success in bargaining our contract.

UW B-TeamChris Lakey, Clinical Technologist, SCCA/Lab Med - Support Services: I am proud to be a member of the 2008 bargaining team. I join with some of our union's strongest and brightest members as we start the journey to our new contract. It will take all of our membership doing their part to bring this agreement to the governor's desk by October 1, 2008. So I am committed to being there through thick and thin as your voice and as your ears in solidarity. I will work very hard for you, but know that I will make big asks of you, my co-workers, when bargaining grinds to a snail's pace.

Dawn Carroll, Program Coordinator, Boat Street/University Police: I am looking forward to serving on the bargaining team.

Debra Young, Program Coordinator, Roosevelt/Women’s Clinic: I am looking forward to serving on the bargaining team.

UW B-TeamJames Oliphant, Fiscal Specialist 2, HSB/Biobehavioral Nursing: I have been an SEIU member since October 2006 and a south campus steward since June 2007. I am relatively new to the SEIU, but not to unions in general. Prior to coming to the U of W I spent fifteen years working in union shops where I also served as a steward. I believe very strongly in the collective bargaining process and I look forward to serving the membership in the coming negotiations.

B-Team PhotoJeaneen Bougard, Program Assistant, Tacoma/Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences: I look forward to the opportunity to represent my co-workers at UW Tacoma on the SEIU 925 Bargaining Team. I want to make sure that management and the UW administration understand the issues that impact the members in our department and across the entire university system.

UW B-TeamJeneil Lagasse
, Budget/Fiscal Operations Spv, HSB, Psychiatry & Behavioral Science: I have worked at UW for almost 20 years, both in the medical centers (UWMC & HMC) and in Health Sciences. I have a broad knowledge of payroll equity and worksite specific issues. I was on the Bargaining Team six years ago and can clearly remember the challenges and the frustration we faced. I believe being on the Bargaining Team is an honor and carries the responsibility to keep members informed every step of the way.

UW B-TeamJody Bundrock, Imaging Technologist, UWMC/Radiology CT: My name is Jody Bundrock and I work in Radiology at the University of Washington. I am currently working in CT, where I have worked for 3 year. I have worked in Radiology at the U for over 10 years. I am proud to be a member of the bargaining team, representing not only the people in my dept., but those throughout the University that share common needs and goals. With the help of all members, I hope to earn a fair contract for the great workers of this institution.

UW B-TeamJose Mayorga, Medical Interpreter 1, HMC/Interpreter Services: I am looking forward to being part of the Bargaining Team again. I know that if we have a solid team, we’ll be able to get management to respect us, to negotiate in a fair way. My previous experience taught me how important it is not only to present your ideas, but even more to argue and to stay together to the end. I’ll do my best to represent you on the Bargaining Team. I believe if we can get all UW unions to the same table, we’ll have even more power to negotiate with management to the level our members deserve. Thank you very much.

Judy Wheel, Imaging Technologist Lead, UWMC/Radiology Diagnostic: In the four years I have been employed at UWMC, I have worked night shift, evening shift and day shift, and am now the weekend Lead Technologist. I also served as the Seattle Area Director of the Washington Society of Radiologic Technologists for 5 years, as well as 3 years as a radiologic technology program director. I am a champion of patient and employee safety, and serve on the Safe Patient Handling Committee. I look forward to representing SEIU 925 members at the bargaining table.

UW B-TeamKathleen Arnold, Clinical Data Specialist, Sandpoint/Patient Data Services: I am new to the UW and new to SEIU but I have always been politically active and passionate about social justice. By occupation I am a medical coder. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Finance and my past experience includes owning a small business. I speak the languages of medicine and business and have the best interests of all the workers in my heart.

UW B-TeamKathy Thomason, Program Support Supervisor 2, HSB/Physical Plant South: I have been at the University of Washington for over 30 years. I have worked on both upper and south campus and know the ways of the University, thoroughly. I have been a member of, and steward for, SEIU 925 since before its inception. I have served on two successful bargaining teams, in the past. I have seen a great many changes over the last 30 years and believe it is important for every union member to do what they can to see those changes are beneficial for all members.

UW B-TeamLisa Rankin, Admissions Specialist, Tacoma/Enrollment Services: I am happy to volunteer my time and represent my colleagues at UW Tacoma on the SEIU Local 925 Bargaining Team to speak for people who need a voice. My personal experience has brought me to understand that employees can have a tough time seeking out fair treatment. Having seen the positive results of taking collective action with my union, I have been motivated to empower my peers to do the same thing. I am excited about the opportunity to work with the Bargaining Team to bring my strengths to the table and win a good contract for all of our members.

Lizette Silsbee, Surgical Technologist, Surgical Pavilion/Surgical Services: My name is Lizette Silsbee. I have been a Surgical Technologist for 22 years. I was formally trained in San Juan, Puerto Rico where I worked for five (5) years. Since moving to Washington State in 1991 I have worked at a number of hospitals and clinics in the Puget Sound area and California. In my experience I have seen and learned many techniques and advancements in the medical field. I believe our purpose is to provide excellent care for the patient and have acted on behalf of patients to make sure their care is done with professionalism and respect. To continue providing the patient with the care they deserve we must however be compensated properly and work hours that don't burn us out. We need to work with Management to put an end to the shortage and correct the lack of training. I will work hard to bring back the respect to the medical field.

Lois Wentzel Egan, Clinical Data Specialist, HMC Pat Steel Bldg/Utilization Review: I am looking forward to serving on the bargaining team.

Reneschia Brown, Patient Representative, HMC/Financial Svcs Counseling: My name is Reneschia Brown. I have worked in the UWMC/HMC system for 7 years (and counting!). My current position is a Patient Representative in the Financial Counseling Office at Harborview Medical Center. As a Patient Representative I am financial advocate for patients and a resource for clinics, social work, medical staff, professional staff, and outside agencies.

I have been active with SEIU 925 embRACE committee for over a year and currently serve as secretary. I participated in the 2007 Lobby Day, did phone banking for a political campaign and serve as a steward.

As a steward I am point of contact for SEIU. I enjoy interaction on a daily basis with a wide range of people from diverse ethic, social and economic backgrounds. The common concern expressed by Harborview employees is that their issues and concerns are not heard.

When I went around Harborview getting signatures for the nomination sheet, every person that signed expressed excitement about having someone who works beside them on the bargaining team. I am interested in being part of the 2008 bargaining team as voice for the Harborview Medical Center employees I interact with everyday.

B-Team PhotoRon Maxell, Scientific Instructional Tech 2, Physics/Astronomy Bldg/Physics: My desire to be a member of the Bargaining Committee is based solidly on a commitment to the fundamentals of fairness and equity. It is my hope that all of our many efforts in the continued excellence of the University will be recognized and justly rewarded.

Sham Ratty
, Medial Interpreter 1, HMC/Interpreter Services: I would like to add that Jose Mayorga has been a strong pillar of support and I would like to have him on the team of negotiators with me. If for any reason it can be only one of us, I will yield to him.

Suzanne Gillespie, Clinical Technologist Lead, HMC/Lab Med – Hematology: I am looking forward to serving on the bargaining team.

UW B-TeamTom Small, Anatomic Pathology Technologist, UWMC/Anatomic Pathology: My name is Tom Small, I have worked in the Anatomic Pathology Department at the UWMC now going on fifteen years. I was on the collective bargaining team for the last cycle of negotiations and I know the concerns that face UW employees campus wide. We need to fight hard to have our issues heard and I am prepared to do just that. We need a strong contract that improves our working conditions and above all brings our wages and benefits up to the levels of our peers in the private sector.
