Child Care Centers Gain 10% Increase in Subsidy Rates

SEIU family providers' contract sets the page

Family child care providers and child care centers across Washington state received 7% higher subsidy rates beginning July 1, thanks to family providers and their union SEIU Local 925, who organized together, negotiated higher rates and won approval from the legislature.

Center teachers and directors across the state will benefit from the higher rates won by the family providers, but centers will need to organize together to keep the momentum for a strong voice for child care.

Because of the rate increases won by SEIU family providers, the legislature appropriated $85 million to directly support child care providers and centers--up from $25 million last year.

Working Together to Raise Quality by Keeping Quality Staff

Owners, directors, teachers--and all child care center staff--are uniting in SEIU. Together we can win the freedom to negotiate with Washington State, so that we can win permanent improvements in our profession and create jobs that encourage and retain quality child care staff.
