Support House Bill 1128/Senate Bill 5062!
Child care is essential – without it, no other workforce would be able to function. SEIU 925 members are librarians, school bus drivers, hospital staff, public defenders, 911 operators, and fill so many more important roles in our communities. Many of us rely on quality, affordable child care to give our kids a safe place to grow and learn while we are at work. Child care is essential for all of us.
But the child care industry is in crisis. Child care providers love the work they do, but low wages and minimal benefits lead to frequent burnout and high turnover. We love our work, but wages are low and benefits minimal, leading to burnout and high turnover. Child care providers leave the industry for better working conditions in public schools or elsewhere. None of that is good for our kids, our fellow union members in child care, or child care businesses.
We have the opportunity to make positive changes in the child care industry! The Child Care Workforce Standards Board (House Bill 1128/Senate Bill 5062) would bring workers, employers, parents, and agencies together to improve the child care industry. It would give workers a voice to solve their biggest challenges. Workforce standards boards have been successfully used in other states including Minnesota, Nevada, Colorado, and California to improve working conditions for similar industries.
