SEIU 925 child care provider detained in Texas

Nicolle Forero is a mother, a child care provider, and an SEIU 925 member. Nicolle, her husband, and their two small children were detained by ICE and transferred to a detention facility in Texas. They are asylum seekers from Colombia who went to court for a routine check-in.

Nicolle’s 6-year-old son Juan has a serious medical condition and was receiving treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

No family should be punished for seeking asylum, especially when a child’s life is at stake. Nicolle and her family should be released from detention in Texas so that they can return home to Washington where Juan can access his life-saving medical care.

This is what a broken and cruel immigration system looks like: it targets people who’ve built their lives here, who work hard, who are the backbone of our communities. It rips them away from their homes and their loved ones and even endangers the lives of innocent children.

As a beloved member of the child care community in Washington, Nicolle was just days away from opening her own licensed in-home child care business. Families that had been counting on Nicolle for child care are now left scrambling to find other options

We call on our elected leaders to act with compassion; keep families safe, together, and in their communities; and to stop these inhumane detainments and deportations.
